Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team capped their regular season with a doubleheader sweep over Fanshawe College (London) at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh Wednesday night by scores of 9-6 and 10-0 moving their record to 15-5.
In the opener the Saints got a solid performance from starting pitcher Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) who pitched 5 innings surrendering 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6 batters with 3 walks. Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's and Matt Brooks (St. Thomas, ON) hit his first home run to lead the Saints offensively. Cienfuegos helped his cause with 2 hits and scored 4 times along with a stolen base. St. Clair staked themselves to a 7-1 lead after the 5th inning but saw Fanshawe score 5 in the 6th to trail by just a run. The Saints scored 2 runs in the bottom half before closing out the visitors for the win.
In the nightcap St. Clair scored 3 runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back. After scoring a run in the 3rd inning and 2 more in the 5th the Saints added the walk-off run in the 6th on a misplayed infield fly for the mercy shortened victory. St. Clair starter Taylor Pappin (Brantford, ON) took the win on the mound with 6 innings of work allowing no runs on 2 hits to go with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. Renaud was a force at the plate again in this game going 3 for 3 for the Saints which included a double.
