Women’s Basketball Fall to Fanshawe

Windsor, ON – In their first league action after the semester break the St. Clair College Women's Basketball team dropped an 84-75 verdict to Fanshawe College (London) Friday night at the SportsPlex but still own a share of 3rd Place in the OCAA's West Division.

St. Clair was red hot in the opening quarter shooting 60% from the field including six makes from distance while staking themselves to a 29-18 lead over Fanshawe.  The Lady Saints stretched their lead to as much as 17 points early in the second quarter but faltered slightly while remaining ahead 46-34 going into halftime.  Fanshawe turned it around in the pivotal third quarter overtaking St. Clair 60-59 heading to the final frame.  The teams were all square at 75-75 with just under three minutes to play but Fanshawe scored the game's final nine points to secure the road win.  

Saints 3rd year guard Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) led her team with 19 points but was joined by three teammates in double figures.  Sister Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) netted 17 points to go with 8 rebounds while Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) scored 15 points for St. Clair.  Anna Ulicny (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) chipped in with 3 makes from distance finishing with 11 points for the Saints.  

St. Clair could not sustain their early shooting prowess and eventually dipped to 35% from the field.  Even though they made 13 triples in the game St. Clair could only muster 30% overall from deep.  Fanshawe shot 46% overall while outscoring St. Clair 30-14 in the paint.  

Chuot Angou (London, ON) scored a game high 31 points for Fanshawe in the win.  

St. Clair will go on the road next weekend to face Mohawk College (Hamilton) Saturday and then finish with Niagara College (Welland) on Sunday.  The Lady Saints return home Feb. 5th to face Lambton College (Sarnia).
