St. Clair College Women's Softball Win a Pair in Kitchener

Kitchener, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team travelled to Kitchener Saturday and defeated Conestoga College twice at Budd Park moving their OCAA leading record to 6-0.  The Saints won by a 12-2 mercy shortened score in the first game and followed that up with a 10-2 victory for the doubleheader sweep.

After going ahead 5-2 after two innings in the opening game St. Clair put the result out of reach in the fourth after scoring 6 runs.  A single in the fifth inning secured the mercy difference as centerfielder Sierra Baltzer (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) continued her strong play for the Saints with a 3-hit performance that included a pair of doubles to go with a triple while driving in three runs and scoring three times herself.  Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON), Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) and Jacklyn Yewchyn (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) each also had three hits apiece as part of a 17-hit team total.  Mckenna Copley (Dover Centre) took the pitching win for the Saints who struck out six batters in three innings of work.

Game two lasted the scheduled seven innings as St. Clair took a 4-0 lead after the first inning to gain control.  A pair of runs in the third and three more in the fourth for the Saints stood up until the final frame where St. Clair added a single.  Conestoga scored two runs in the bottom half, but it was merely a footnote to the final score.  Claydon claimed the pitching win for the Saints allowing just two hits and no runs with a pair of strikeouts over four innings.  Rookie Alivia Peterson (Windsor, ON/St. Anne) led a 16-hit attack with two singles and a double that produced two rbi's.  Fellow freshman Ashley Ventura (Fergus, ON) drove in three runs on a single and a triple for St. Clair which was equaled by Julia Brusseau (Lakeshore, ON/St. Anne).

St. Clair will host a doubleheader Sunday against Mohawk College (Hamilton) starting at 1pm on their SportsPark diamond.
