Men’s Basketball Can’t Stop Sheridan

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team had a valiant effort but eventually wore down in a 104-95 home court loss to Sheridan College (Brampton) Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex. The Saints record now sits at 4-7 in the OCAA's West Division.

After a quick early lead the Saints were outscored 33-23 by Sheridan in the first quarter which proved to be there undoing.  Sheridan stretched their lead to as much as 17 points in the second quarter and were ahead 64-50 by halftime.  St. Clair did not go quietly turning the tables and briefly led in the third quarter trailing only 83-79 entering the final period.  Sheridan had enough down the stretch and never let the Saints closer than 5 points.  The teams each shot an effective 50% from the floor but Sheridan scored 12 times from deep to just 7 for St. Clair.  Sheridan was also +24 in points off the bench but the Saints were +10 in points off turnovers.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) and Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) each scored a game high 28 points for St. Clair.  Gomez added 7 assists and 3 steals with Sykes chipping in with 4 rebounds.  Juwan Lynch (Windsor, ON/Kennedy Collegiate) chipped in with 12 points while Ian Smart (Chatham, ON) recorded 9 points with 9 rebounds for the Saints.

Stefan Simpson (Brampton, ON) scored 22 points for Sheridan in the win and led 5 Bruins in double figures.

The St. Clair Men's Basketball team will continue league play on the road next weekend when they travel to Redeemer University College (Ancaster) on Saturday followed by a game on Sunday at Niagara College (Welland).
