Smith and Grizzlies Unable to Outpace Huskies
The Georgian Grizzlies (5-5) hosted the George Brown Huskies (9-1) on Friday evening.
What Happened: The Georgian Grizzlies hosted the George Brown Huskies on Friday evening in their first home game of the 2023 winter semester.
From the start the Huskies put an aggressive offence forward against Georgian, Derrick Taylor putting up 10 points of the Huskies 22 in the first frame. Georgian, unable to capitalize on a few momentum shifts fell behind early but kept pace for most of the match. The Huskies took the first quarter 22-15. Georgian wanting to bounce back put up a solid effort in the second quarter, taking it 23-21, shortening the gap slightly before heading into half time.
After the half, a well rested Huskies team put up 30 points against Georgian's 21 in the third quarter, giving them a large bout of momentum heading into the final frame. A difficult start to the fourth quarter for the Grizzlies, struggling to string together much in the opening few minutes before finding their rhythm, but not early enough as they fell in the final frame 26-22, losing the match 99-81.
Simeon Smith led the Grizzlies with 18 points on the night, going 7-15 FGM-A. On the Huskies side, Derrick Taylor finished the game with 19 points, going 7-12 FGM-A, and 3-7 3PM-A.
