MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALL IN SHOWDOWN WITH PANTHERS
Cameron Calhoun had a season-high 21 points but the Grizzlies lost in a marathon game 3-2 to Canadore on Saturday in North Bay.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's volleyball team travelled to face the Canadore Panthers on Saturday in a big regular season game in North Bay.
The game was a thriller between two of the OCAA east division's top teams.
Georgian was able to get off to a great start taking the game's first two sets, but momentum swung the other way as the Panthers were able to come back and take three straight sets to win the match 3-2.
Set scores were 16-25, 24-26, 25-17, 26-24 and 19-17.
Cameron Calhoun (Stayner) led the way for the Grizzlies in the marathon match scoring a season-high 21 points from 20 kills and an ace.
Teammates Kaelan Kloetstra (London) had 19 points from 15 kills, three aces and a block while Samuel Thorup (St. Marys) was also strong with a 14-point performance.
The loss dropped the Grizzlies to third place in the OCAA east division standings with an 8-3 record, one win behind the Panthers.
The Grizzlies will play their first home games of 2020 this week. First, they host the Seneca Sting this Wednesday, Jan. 22 with the women's game scheduled for 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 8 p.m.
They will also host the Loyalist Lancers this coming Saturday, Jan. 25 with the women's game at 1 p.m. and the men's game following at 3 p.m.
