Darl Sutherland is a three-time individual medalist in OCAA cross country.

After being runner-up at the 2001 and 2002 championships, Sutherland reached the top of the podium at the 2004 provincials, finishing the 8 km race in a time of 28:50.99, nearly five seconds ahead of fellow OCAA Hall of Fame athlete Jakob Van Dorp of Redeemer.

Darl was also a key factor in Fleming's team success, as they won two men's team golds and two silvers in his four years. Fleming-Peterborough was crowned overall OCAA champions in 2001-02.

Sutherland exceled on the national stage as well. Darl placed third at the 2002 and 2004 CCAA championships. Fleming earned a men's team silver medal in 2004, while the OCAA as a conference earned silver medals at both nationals Sutherland competed in.

The Knights top runner during the first half of the decade, Sutherland was named Fleming's Cross Country MVP in each of his four seasons, and Fleming's Male Athlete of the Year in 2004-05.

Darl now runs longer distances, and is a veteran of the Philadelphia, Boston and Toronto marathons.
