Jason Hernandez's OCAA journey began at Seneca College in the fall of 2008. Jason enjoyed immediate success as the Sting went 15-3 during the 2008-09 regular season en route to a provincial silver medal as Jason was named an OCAA Championship All-Star. Jason also played on the national stage for the first time at Keyano College in Alberta as Seneca narrowly missed out at advancing to the CCAA semi-finals.

Seneca would win the East Division regular season title the following season with a record of 16-2 as Jason was named an OCAA First-Team All-Star. Once again Seneca claimed the OCAA silver medal as Jason was named an OCAA Championship All-Star for a second time. Jason played one final season for Seneca in 2010-11 and was once again named an OCAA First-Team All-Star and OCAA Championship All-Star. Jason set two OCAA records for kills in a match (33) and in a season (257). With a 14-4 regular season record, Seneca returned to the OCAA semi-finals but fell short of a medal on this occasion.

Following a two-season hiatus, Jason donned the St. Clair College colours. The fortunes of the Saints dramatically improved as they finished an OCAA regular season above .500 for the first time in 11 seasons. Jason was again named an OCAA First-Team All-Star. But it is the 2014-15 that is celebrated at St. Clair. Jason was recognized as the OCAA Player of the Year and CCAA All-Canadian, moving into second place in OCAA all-time with 1,145 career points and 950 career kills.

St. Clair finished 12-6 during the regular season and made a magical run through the 2014-15 post-season, winning its first-ever OCAA medal, another silver to Jason's collection. It was a fittting book end to Jason's collegiate career, returning to the national stage at Holland College in Charlottetown and advancing to the CCAA bronze medal match.
