John Hayden was a member of the Fanshawe men's basketball program for four seasons, beginning in 1979-80.

He was an instrumental piece in both of Fanshawe's national championship teams in 1979-80 and 1980-81, and was named a CCAA championship all-star in 1980-81. While John was a member of the Falcons, the team had an OCAA league record of 60-18 and won two provincial championships.

He led Fanshawe in scoring three times, and was fourth in OCAA scoring during the 1981-82 season when he scored 273 points for an average of 17.1 per game. He is a two-time OCAA first-team all-star (1980-81 and 1981-82), an OCAA second-team all-star in 1982-83 and was named the OCAA championship MVP in 1980-81.

John is currently second all-time in Fanshawe men's basketball history for career points with 1,119, averaging 15.1 points per game.
