Sting Split Season Series with Hawks

The Seneca Sting fell to the Humber Hawks Wednesday night 9-1 to complete their season series. The teams split the series with each winning one game at home and one on the road.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the second inning, putting five runs on the scoreboard of Sting starter Ryan Fedrigo.

Matt Stoddart led off the inning with a double and came home two batters later. Keegan Murphy, Blake Kauer, Andrew Thomson and Brandon Manley would score in the inning for the Hawks. With the bases loaded and traiing 5-0, Fedrigo was able to get a force out at second base to end the inning.

The Hawks added one run in the top of the fourth inning as Kenneth Hahnfeld reached on a single before scoring on a double steal. With Brandon Costa trying to steal second and Hahnfeld on third, Sting catcher Dwaine Nichol threw to second. Hahnfeld raced for home and appeared to be out before diving over Nichol to avoid the tag.

The Sting got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Brett Watson walked with one out, moved to second base on an error and then to third base on a wild pitch. Alec Miller would score Watson on a groundout to shortstop.

The Hawks added three more runs in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.

Miller, Fedrigo, Cole Newton and Ward Benn each had hits for the Sting. Daniel Accardo recorded four putouts while Newton added three putouts.

Stoddart went 3-for-4 at the plate whiel Kauer was 2-for-4. Mitch Wilbur had four putouts for the Hawks.

Fedrigo suffered the loss, throwing four innings while allowing nine hits, six runs (three earned), striking out four and walking two batters. Rory Pollard picked up the win, throwing five innings, allowing three hits, one run, striking out seven batters and walking one.
