Colts Drop Final Road Game to Lancers

Colts Drop Final Road Game to Lancers

By: Pedro Casellatto

Belleville, ON - After three hard-fought sets, the Centennial Women's Volleyball team lost on Wednesday and split the season record with the Loyalist Lancers. Without any chances to get into the East Division's top four, the Colts will now be defending fifth place from the Algonquin Wolves and will be playing the first playoff game away from their home gym.

The first set against the Lancers was a reflection of the entire game. With a great performance in service, the Lancers dominated the first set by creating many transition opportunities. The Colts could not find a way to overcome the Lancers and spent the entire game behind on the scoreboard. The usually balanced defensive and offensive system the Colts normally show was not present last night.

On the other side of the court, the Lancers were surfing a wave of momentum and came out for the second set just as strong and aggressive. Through the middle, the third-year setter, Georgi Williams, made the Lancers work in a state of flow. Both middles, Alyssa Diemert and Charlie Cudmore, finished the game with a hitting percentage over .500.

The Colts couldn't get past the great momentum the Lancers created. The outside hitter, Jaque Ronquillo, led the team in kills, but it was not enough to keep the team ahead. On the Lancers side, the experienced fifth-year right-side hitter, Allyson Terwillegar, led the game with 10 kills and 16 points total.

The Colts now have the chance to end the season in the positive column. They will be hosting the last game of the regular season against the Canadore Panthers this Sunday at 1 p.m. This will be their opportunity to defend their spot and increase their chances in the playoffs.
