Colts Clash in Close contest against Huskies

Toronto, Ontario - In the season opener, the Colts rode to Esther Shiner Field to face the Huskies. The squad controlled the game, but couldn't capitalize on some great opportunities, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

Centennial played a consistent game from start to finish. A strong work rate by their forwards created early opportunities. In the 18-minute, Kai Douglas helped draw a penalty in the box, allowing Elizabeth Maione to pot the Colts' first goal of the season and her first career goal with the Colts.

Coach Rich's teams are known for their organization and sound defensive tactics. The defence, led by Colts' captain and veteran Emily Cullen, was almost perfect, allowing only three shots on goal, but it was a well-executed set piece around the 40th minute that helped the Huskies tie the game up.

After tying up the game, the Huskies were happy to sit back and slow the game down, only looking to score on counterattacks. Their success was thanks to the fantastic defensive play from 5th-year defender Brianna Samuels-McLaughlin, and excellent goalkeeping by Victoria Broomer, who finished the game with 9 saves on 10 shots.

Speaking with Coach Rich after the game, "I'm happy with our team's effort. We were sound defensively, but our attackers were frustrated by the physicality of the George Brown players, who have experience managing games. They smartly knew when to foul to prevent our offence from getting into a rhythm, but it was a first game, and given our talent, I know we'll bounce back. We'll take the tie."

The Colts are back in action this Saturday (September 16) with a noon kick-off, facing the Cambrian Golden Shield in their second away game. In their last meet-up, the Cambrian Shield spoiled the Colts Sr. Appreciation Day with a 3-1 victory.
