Centennial Wins in Straight Sets to Close Out the Season

SCARBOROUGH - The Centennial Colts won 3-0 against the Algonquin Wolves in the last game of the season on Senior Night.

The Centennial Colts (12-6) beating the Algonquin Wolves (13-5) meant that they were victorious against the team who finished one spot ahead of them in the east standings. This win was a great game for the Colts' men to build their confidence heading into the playoffs.

The seniors for Centennial were honoured pregame. The seniors this year are Babak Ebrahimi, Brenden Chau, Tony Tran, Ayoola Ojeshina, and Alexander Smith. We thank them for their contributions to Centennial Athletics.

Ebrahimi made his senior night one to remember as he had 11 assists in the first set. Ebrahimi was seemingly going head-to-head with Algonquin's Jacob Matheson, as he also had 11 assists. Centennial went on to win that one 25-19.

The second set saw more of the same action as the first. Great volleyball was played between two great schools, and the home team took the set 25-20.

Both teams continually hit the volleyball too far on serves, resulting in unnecessary errors. They will look to clean this aspect of their game up for the playoffs.

The final set was a thriller. A back-and-forth rally felt like it was never going to end, with Centennial finally closing it out with a 31-29 win.

Lionnis Salazar's 17 kills were essential to stop any momentum Algonquin was able to create.

The Centennial Colts men's volleyball team will play Redeemer in the first game of the playoffs on Saturday, February 18th at the Athletic and Wellness Centre.
