Colts Drop First Game in Ottawa

Colts Drop First Game in Ottawa

By: Pedro Casellatto

Ottawa, ON - After fighting hard to get out of tough situations during the game, the Centennial Women's Volleyball team ended up losing to the Algonquin Wolves in three straight sets. Having to deal with aggressive serves and a strong block, the Colts struggled to maintain a good pace and put the ball away in important moments.

The game started with the Wolves surprising the Colts with new offensive tendencies, escaping from what they showed in the first game. Having to adjust their defensive patterns, the attention was taken away from their offence. The game was balanced by strategic serves from Jaque Ronquillo, with assistance from Cl Viloria with powerful swings. However, the Wolves seemed to pick up on the game strategies quickly and managed to undermine the attack attempts, closing the first set 25-15.

Down one set, the Colts got together to ensure they maintained high energy levels and aggression. They decided to implement a new look to their defence, which generated opportunities to take the lead a few times throughout the set. Due to a few mistakes in the final points on the Colts' side, the Wolves were able to pull through, taking another set 25-23. In the third and final set of the game, the Colts could not maintain momentum, resulting in a 25-21 loss.

The Colts will have the chance for redemption this Sunday at 1 p.m. They will be taking on the La Cité Coyotes, having the chance to take home a win and secure fifth place in the OCAA standings for another round. We hope the Colts can put this loss behind them and move forward by fighting to protect their spot.
