The Seneca Sting came up short in their home opener against the Durham Lords, falling 69-62 to open the season.
The Sting, showing some early jitters, fell behind the Lords early and were unable to catch up despite a number of runs throughout the game.
The Lords, playing their second game of the season, jumped out to a 13-10 lead after the first quarter before opening a nine point advantage at the half.
Trailing by fourteen to enter the fourth quarter, the Sting closed to within five points midway through the final frame, but the Lords quickly regained the double-digit lead.
Taylor Allicock led the Sting with 19 points along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals. Sarah Givens added 9 points and 6 assists. Danielle Belcher, Sharifa Clarke and Shenice Stubbs each added 7 points.
Lindsay Panchan paced the Lords with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting along with 10 rebounds. Kayla Marshall added 17 points and 7 steals. Dakota Kirby contributed 10 points.
