Battle Tested

The Seneca Sting were tested for a third consecutive game, coming away with a 80-78 win over the Algonquin Thunder to improve to 3-0.

After falling behind 27-26 following the first quarter, the Sting put on a defensive clinic, holding the Thunder to just eight points in the second quarter.

The Sting increased their lead to thirteen entering the fourth quarter, but the Thunder would claw their way back.

In a back-and-forth battle, the Thunder cut the Sting lead to 70-68, but the Sting would grown their lead to 77-73 following a pair of free throws by Yusuf Ali. Up 78-75, the Thunder hit a three pointer with just 4.5 seconds remaining the tie the game.

Following a time out, Khalil Miller took the inbound pass and quickly put the Sting ahead with 3.5 seconds left. A desperation three pointer hit the top of the backboard as the final buzzer sounded to end the game.

Miller topped the Sting with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Ali contributed 16 points and Haroun Mohamed added 14 points. Liban Mohamed finished with 4 assists and a trio of rebounds.

Mike Soy led the Thunder with 17 points. Zerious Loney added 15 points while Denis Dervisevic scored 9 points and added 9 rebounds.
