Sting Shutout By Saints

The Seneca Sting managed just one hit in a 15-0 loss to the St. Clair Saints in game one of their doubleheader.

The Saints, three-time reigning OCAA Champions, scored two runs in the first inning before exploding for six runs in the second inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

Sting pitcher Francisco Mata pitched a perfect third inning before giving up three runs in the fourth inning.

Mata was replaced with two outs in the fourth inning by Dylan Dempsey, who gave up four runs in the fifth inning to complete the scoring.

Ryan Fedrigo had the lone hit for the Sting while Brett Watson reach on an error in the second inning.

Jeff Watkin reached base four times, scoring three runs. Eric Cunningham reached base in each of his four plate appearances on two walks and two hit-by-pitch. Cunningham scored three times for the Saints.

Mata suffered the loss for the Sting, pitching three and two-thirds innings while striking out three batters.

Shane Courtney picked up the win for the Saints, pitching all five innings, allowing one hit and striking out three batters.

The Sting fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss while the Saints improved to 5-0.
