ST. CLAIR READY TO HOST FIRST-EVER OCAA MEN'S BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

TECUMSEH, Ont. - The St. Clair College is putting final preparations together to host the first-ever Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men's baseball championship this weekend at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh, Ont. The weekend starts tonight with the OCAA championship banquet at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts and will include former Major League Baseball player Rob Ducey as the guest speaker who will address the four qualifying schools from St. Clair, Durham, Humber and George Brown Colleges. The OCAA league awards for the regular season will also be handed out at this evening's gathering.

Ducey was raised in Cambridge, Ont., and graduated from Seminole Community College. He was first signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1984. After playing in the Blue Jays organization from 1987 to 1992, he moved on to the California Angels (1992), Texas Rangers (1993-1994), Seattle Mariners (1997-1998), Philadelphia Phillies (1999-2000, 2000-2001) and Montreal Expos (2001), with a brief return to Toronto in 2000. An outfielder, he ended his 13-year major league career with a .242 batting average and 31 home runs in 703 games. Ducey was a designated hitter for Team Canada in the 2004 Summer Olympics which finished in fourth place. He was the first Canadian to have played for both of Canada's MLB teams, the Montreal Expos and Toronto Blue Jays, in addition to the Canadian Olympic team.
 
The double knock-out format will begin play at 11:00am on Friday with No. 2 seed Humber College (11-5) facing No. 3 seed Durham College (10-6). Top seeded St. Clair College (14-2) will face No. 4 seed George Brown College (4-12) at 1:30 p.m. with the first pitch being thrown out by Rob Ducey.
