OCAA ANNOUNCES BADMINTON ALL MILLENNIUM TEAMS

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is proud to announce the twenty-one members selected to the Men’s and Women’s Badminton All-Millennium teams. The 11 women and 10 men players who were nominated all played prior to the change of the millennium.

The women’s team is headlined by three time OCAA Women’s Singles gold medalist Sue Mileva of Seneca College. Mileva also holds the distinction as the only OCAA athlete to win a gold medal in Women’s Singles competition at the CCAA Nationals accomplishing the feat in 1999. Also joining Mileva in this class are Gabe Roy of Cambrian College and Sandra Meisel of St. Clair College. Both women are also three time OCAA gold medalist in women’s doubles competition.

On the men’s team, Ian Bishop of Algonquin College leads this class back to the beginning of OCAA history as the three time men’s singles gold medalist was the first OCAA Badminton Champion in the organization’s history. Also joining Bishop on the All-Millennium team will be the decorated Niagara College duo of Mark Nelson and Tom Peat. The pair dominated the badminton scene from in Ontario from 1984-1987 and also added CCAA National gold medals from 1985-1987.

The All-Millennium teams were first announced in 2000, then recognizing teams for Volleyball and Basketball. This year the OCAA has recognize a total of sixty-eight former athletes as members of the Women’s Fastball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer and Men’s and Women’s Badminton All-Millennium teams.
