The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is proud to
announce the twenty-one members selected to the Men’s and
Women’s Badminton All-Millennium teams. The 11 women and 10
men players who were nominated all played prior to the change of
the millennium.
The women’s team is headlined by three time OCAA
Women’s Singles gold medalist Sue Mileva of Seneca College.
Mileva also holds the distinction as the only OCAA athlete to win a
gold medal in Women’s Singles competition at the CCAA
Nationals accomplishing the feat in 1999. Also joining Mileva in
this class are Gabe Roy of Cambrian College and Sandra Meisel of
St. Clair College. Both women are also three time OCAA gold
medalist in women’s doubles competition.
On the men’s team, Ian Bishop of Algonquin College leads this
class back to the beginning of OCAA history as the three time
men’s singles gold medalist was the first OCAA Badminton
Champion in the organization’s history. Also joining Bishop
on the All-Millennium team will be the decorated Niagara College
duo of Mark Nelson and Tom Peat. The pair dominated the badminton
scene from in Ontario from 1984-1987 and also added CCAA National
gold medals from 1985-1987.
The All-Millennium teams were first announced in 2000, then
recognizing teams for Volleyball and Basketball. This year the OCAA
has recognize a total of sixty-eight former athletes as members of
the Women’s Fastball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer
and Men’s and Women’s Badminton All-Millennium teams.
These athletes will also be formally recognized at the OCAA Hall of
Fame Induction Ceremony in Windsor on April 29th, 2009.
