St. Clair played host to the OCAA Provincial Badminton Championships this past weekend and was able to secure two medals along with a ticket to the National Championships in Edmonton, Alberta in two weeks which will be hosted by Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

After tying for 1st Place in Men’s Doubles Round Robin play St. Clair’s Vuong Tran (Vietnam) and Sam Lamoure (Harrow) won their semi-final match (21-18, 27-25) against OCAA Men’s Player of the Year Charlie Lay (Windsor-Massey) using extra points in the final game. Tran and Lamoure then swept Cambrian (21-7, 21-14) in the final match to claim the Gold Medal and finished with a 6-1 record on the weekend.

St. Clair’s Julie Schell (Leamington) qualified first in round robin play with a perfect 5-0 record but was upset (22-21, 21-18) in the semi-final by the eventual champion from Boreal. Schell then won the Bronze Medal Match over the entry from Seneca (21-18, 21-17) earning her 2nd medal in three seasons with the Saints.

George Brown (Toronto) and Humber (Etobicoke) tied for the Overall Team Title while George Brown claimed the Men’s Team Title and Boreal (Sudbury) took the Women’s Team Title.
