SHUTTLECOCKS SET TO FLY AT OCAA BADMINTON REGIONALS

TORONTO - Badminton players from across the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) are playing for keeps this Friday and Saturday as they bid for a spot at the OCAA championships.

Student-athletes will compete in five events, including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The top three singles players and doubles teams from each event will advance to provincials.

Some notable returnees to the OCAA circuit this season include 2010-11 medalists Jenna Dupuis of Boréal; Dayvon Reid and Mark Wong of George Brown; Tracy Wong, Alyssa Woon, Suzy Yan and Renee Yip of Humber; and Chris Hong and Mohammad Nazimuddin of Mohawk. OCAA medalists from previous seasons include Kayla Odorizzi of Cambrian; Mike Del Fante of Conestoga; Dustin Mitchell and Simon Yip of Humber; and Randall Brus of Redeemer.

Collège Boréal in Sudbury, Ont. will play host to the East regional, and include players from Boréal, Cambrian, Centennial, George Brown, Georgian and St. Lawrence-Brockville.

Humber College in Etobicoke, Ont. plays host to the West regional, and includes student-athletes from Conestoga, Fanshawe, Humber, Mohawk, St. Clair, Seneca and Redeemer. The OCAA badminton championships will take place Feb. 17-18 at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont.

The 2012 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) badminton championships will be hosted by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C. from March 1-3.
