WESLEY NAMED 2013 CCAA BADMINTON COACH OF THE YEAR

David Wesley, head coach of the Georgian Grizzlies, is the 2013 CCAA Badminton Coach of the Year.

The Georgian Grizzlies compete in the OCAA East region, where they captured gold in men's singles and men and women's doubles. They'll compete in four events as the host team of the 2013 CCAA Badminton National Championships.

"Wesley's team improved their depth and had strong results this year," says Alf McGuire, CCAA badminton convenor. "He's a great guy and an excellent ambassador for the sport."

Wesley strives to develop each teammate into a multidisciplinary athlete armed with a positive attitude and strong academic skills.

He's a local sports leader, organizing badminton clinics, coaching for the Ontario Winter Games and introducing the sport to the local Special Olympics chapter.

Other nominees for 2013 CCAA Badminton Coach of the Year were Richard Bennicke of the DAL-AC Rams, Shannon Lim of the NAIT Ooks, and Janice Walker of the VIU Mariners.

Wesley received the award Wednesday, February 27 at the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet at the 2013 CCAA Badminton National Championships in Barrie, Ont. CCAA Coaches of the Year receive a customized ring provided by Jostens, the official ring supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet. 

The 2013 CCAA Badminton National Championships take place February 28 - March 2 at Georgian College in Barrie, Ont.
