Day one is complete at the 2013 CCAA Badminton National
Championship with its share of excitement across the board through
the first three rounds of play.
Two-time CCAA Male Player of the Year Dan Kai of NAIT sits atop
the leaderboard in men's singles play with a perfect 3-0 record.
Losing only two sets, Kai put together an impressive day and handed
Tim Chiu (Humber College) and Jason Sun (Langara
College) their only loses in the first three rounds who sit behind
Kai with 2-1 records.
In women's singles play there is a tie on top of the standings
with Carol Dela Cerna (Seneca College) and RuiLin
Huang (Douglas College) both posting perfect 3-0 records after Day
1. Dela Cerna and Huang will not meet until the fifth and final
round robin stage which takes place Friday starting at 12 noon.
Douglas College's Nathan Choi and Wei (Ray) Luo hold the top spot
in men's doubles holding the only perfect record in the bracket at
3-0. Jimin Jung and Ian Tang of
Seneca College sit in second place with 2-1 record and will have an
import match against the Douglas duo in round five.
Another big match-up is setting up in round five Friday afternoon
as Tracy Wong and Renee Yip from
Humber College and Amy Leung and Charmagne Yeung of Douglas College
went perfect on day one with 3-0 records. It was a solid day for
the women's doubles team from host Georgian College as
Rebecca Trischler and Carolyn
Tubman put together a 2-1 record and have themselves in
medal contention after three rounds.
In mixed doubles, NAIT's Lei Chen and Jessica Yu looked strong
