ST. CLAIR BADMINTON CLAIMS PROVINCIAL SILVER MEDAL IN MIXED DOUBLES

NORTH YORK, Ont. - The St. Clair College mixed doubles pair of Somath Kong (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) and Alaina Lee (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy) won a silver medal at the OCAA provincial championship hosted by Seneca College in North York, Ont., this past weekend.

The rookie players were the second out of the west regional and entered the semi-finals in second place after a 4-1 record in round robin play. Kong and Lee advanced to the medal round after defeating the third place team from George Brown College 21-10, 18-21, 21-13 in the semi-finals.  But they took the silver medal after falling 21-8, 21-15 to Humber College in the gold medal match.

With the top two finishers in each discipline qualifying for the CCAA national championship, Kong and Lee earned themselves a trip to Nanaimo, B.C., for the event hosted by Vancouver Island University March 1-5.

St. Clair's Dat Dang (Windsor, Ont./Catholic Central) and Matt Treloar (Belle River, Ont./Belle River) also competed in men's doubles at the provincials but did not advance out of round robin play after posting a 1-4 record.
