GEORGE BROWN INTRODUCES HIGHLY DECORATED PAIR IN MAY AND SCHRAM

TORONTO - The George Brown College Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of Garrett May and Will Schram, who will lead the men's volleyball and badminton programs, respectively.

Hailing from a storied coaching family, May joins the Huskies via Leaside Volleyball Club. He is a talented left side graduate from the University of Western Ontario, where he racked up an incredible list of accolades. May won a CIS silver medal, was a four-time all-star, player of the year and OUA rookie of the year. He has also been a member of Canada's national beach volleyball team since 2008, capturing a Beach Volleyball Junior World Championship gold medal in 2010.

May is looking to instill a culture of hard work and bring a winning mentality to the program, which he believes has the potential to succeed at the national level. "In my first year I expect to arrive and begin immediately setting the foundation for a program that fosters belief and a commitment to excellence in everyone involved. If we can get everyone on board, we should have a successful year."

With a solid core of returning players from the 2015-16 season, May is eager to get the team back on the court. "I am extremely excited to be joining the George Brown Huskies family. From the first day I walked in I could tell that this was a great environment for students to discover their life's passion. For me that passion is volleyball, and I very much look forward to the start of the season."

Schram has been a badminton professional at the Boulevard Club for the past 14 years. A graduate and former varsity player at Humber College, Schram is also a former top-four singles player in Canada, a provincial singles champion, and member of the Canada Winter Games and Ontario Winter Games teams.

In his new role with the Huskies he looks forward to achieving his goal of winning a provincial championship and taking the team to nationals. Inspired by a quote from Muhammad Ali, "Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion," Schram knows this won't be an easy feat and will require many hours of dedication and hard work from his players.

"I am very excited for this season. I look forward to working with some of our athletes that had great results last year and helping them continue to improve on their games. My outlook for the season is to have a highly competitive team that wants to win and brings home fantastic results."

With these two highly accomplished pro's leading their respective programs, the future looks extremely bright for Huskies volleyball and badminton.
