TORONTO - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's badminton teams opened their 2016-17 season at the Humber Cup on Oct. 14 and 15 in Toronto.

Ethan Zhao had a strong tournament as he made it to the quarter-finals in each of the disciplines (men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles) in the 'A' division.

Georgian teammates Philip Bruce and Kevin Yap were able to win the men's doubles 'C' division competition at the event.

It was a strong showing for this year's team which features eight rookies.

This is a big season for the badminton program as Georgian will play host to the 2017 OCAA Badminton Championships presented by belairdirect from Feb. 17-18.
