GEORGIAN BADMINTON BUILDS MOMENTUM AT ROYAL CUP

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's badminton teams competed at the Royal Cup hosted by Redeemer University College this past weekend in Ancaster, Ont.

Teams went head-to-head in each of the five disciplines: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles and would earn one point for their team with each win.

Georgian had a record of 1-2 in the round robin which placed them fourth in their pool. The Grizzlies regrouped in the playoff round pulling out a big 3-2 win over Redeemer in the quarter-finals.

The Grizzlies played a tight semi-final match against Centennial but fell 3-2. Georgian wrapped up the tournament with a strong fourth place finish.

Next up for the Grizzlies, they will play in the Fanshawe Invitational which gets underway on Nov. 18 in London.

Georgian will play host to this season's 2017 OCAA Badminton Championships presented by belairdirect from Feb. 17-18 at the Georgian Athletic Centre featuring the top players from the province.
