GEORGIAN SHOWS WELL AT FANSHAWE INVITATIONAL

LONDON, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's badminton team competed at the Fanshawe Invitational this past weekend in London, Ont.

The Grizzlies continue to build on their early season success with some good performances.

Eric Kern and Ethan Zhao both made the round of 16 in the men's singles competition and later teamed up to in the men's doubles competition where they made it all the way to the quarter-finals.

Fen Lin made a strong run in the men's singles consolation round going 3-1 and earning a spot in the semifinal.

Tammy Do went 3-1 in the women's singles only losing a tight battle in the quarter-finals. Teammate Laura Wallace played well to earn a spot in the semifinal of the women's consolation round.

This was the final tournament for the badminton team in the calendar year 2016. The team will eagerly prepare for the St. Clair tournament which takes place Jan. 20-22 in Windsor, Ont. From there it's on to the two most important provincial tournaments of the year, the OCAA regionals (Feb. 3-4) and the OCAA championships.

Georgian will play host to this season's 2017 OCAA Badminton Championships presented by belairdirect Feb. 17-18 at the Georgian Athletic Centre featuring the top players from the province.
