OCAA/OUA BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

OCAA/OUA BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

TECUMSEH, Ont. - Provincial bragging rights will be on the line this weekend as the Durham College baseball team travels to Tecumseh, Ont., for the second annual Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA)/Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship.

Durham earned a berth into the championship for the second straight year after their silver medal performance at the OCAA championship in Oshawa, Ont., this past weekend. The Lords will be joined by the OCAA gold medalists and host St. Clair Saints, along with the Brock Badgers and Waterloo Warriors, who won gold and silver respectively at the OUA championship.

As the OCAA silver medalists, Durham will match up against Brock in the opening round, who shutout Waterloo 8-0 in the OUA gold medal game. The Badgers rolled through OUA competition this season, ending the regular season with a 17-1 record and going 3-0 at the provincial championship. Brock has a 30-3 overall record on the year.

Durham's season has been a roller coaster ride, but the team managed to hit a high-note at the OCAA championship as they defeated the Humber Hawks and Fanshawe Falcons in elimination games to qualify for this weekend's championship.

Action will begin on Friday, Oct. 24 when St. Clair and Waterloo square off in the opening game at 4 p.m., followed by Durham and Brock at 7 p.m.

Last year, St. Clair defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks in back-to-back championship games to win the inaugural title. Brock finished in third place with Durham being eliminated in two games.
