DURHAM 11, HUMBER 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's baseball team showcased both its offence and defence in defeating Humber College 11-1 in five innings at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium.

The Lords started fast as designated hitter Spencer Green (Mallorytown, Ont.) began the game with a leadoff triple. This was followed by a string of hits that resulted in a nine run first inning for the Lords as they pulled away from Humber quickly.

"I think it really fired us up," said Green about his leadoff triple. "It kind of got things rolling and got everyone pumped up so we could have some fun after that."

After the first, the Lords would add to their lead with two runs in the second, and then began the strong defensive effort led by pitcher Ilija Bozinovski (Ajax, Ont.) who pitched four innings allowing only one earned run on three hits while recording two strikeouts.

The game ended in the fifth on the strength of strong back to back defensive plays. Shortstop Ryan George (Whitby, Ont.) recorded the second out of the inning with an impressive play on an infield hit while centre fielder Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) tracked down a line drive to end the game.

Strong performances were had  at the plate by Brennan Conquer (Ajax, Ont.) who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, David Fischer (Oshawa, Ont.) who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a stolen base, and Riley Davis (Innisfil, Ont.) who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Lords will now take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in an exhibition game at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium.
