SENECA 5, DURHAM 1

SENECA 5, DURHAM 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College baseball team had their three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night as they dropped a 5-1 decision to Seneca in game one of their doubleheader. However, the Lords were able to bounce back in game two with a 10-2 victory, which featured starting pitcher Ryan Norris (Oshawa, Ont.) recording 14 strikeouts.

Durham (7-8) clinched a spot in the OCAA final four championship, which they will be hosting from Oct. 17-18 at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium. Before the season's end, the Lords will look to catch Fanshawe (8-6), who will close out the season in Oshawa, Ont., on Oct. 11.

In game one against the Sting, giving up free passes was the Lords' downfall, as all of Seneca's five runs got on base because of walks. In five innings of work, Wesley Hardwick (Toronto) allowed just three hits but five runs scored off of five walks and an error. Paul Zettler (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief.

Jordan Edmonds (Horsham, U.K.) and Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate, but the Lords were only able to score one run in the loss as they left seven runners on base.

Durham batters had a turnaround in game two as they scored four runs over the first three innings to take an early lead. The Lords capped off the game with back-to-back three run innings to cruise to the eight run victory.

Five batters had multi-hit games including Hardwick, Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.), Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.), Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ont.) and Keenan Terwilliger (Enniskillen, Ont.).

Norris got the start and went the distance for the fourth straight game, allowing two runs (one earned) off of seven hits. Norris fanned a season-high 14 Sting hitters.

The two teams will be back on the diamond this Saturday at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
