ST. CLAIR MEN'S BASEBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

TORONTO - The St. Clair College men's baseball team ran their string of OCAA provincial championships to four in a row with a 7-4 victory over Fanshawe College (London) this afternoon at Etobicoke's Connorvale Park. This marks the fifth straight championship season for the Saints dating back to the CIBA national championship in 2012.

After winning a pair of games Saturday over Durham College (3-1) and host Humber College (9-1), the Saints needed just one win Sunday over Fanshawe to claim their fourth OCAA gold medal in as many years. In fact the relatively new OCAA sport has only ever known St. Clair to be its champion.

St. Clair rookie Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, Que.) earned the OCAA championship most valuable player award with pitcher Kyle Breitner (Mississauga, Ont.) and third baseman Max Ayarza (Bocas del Toro, Panama) being named to the Championship All-Star team. Cienfuegos pitched the final outs for St. Clair picking up the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief work. Saints left fielder Crannel Jerald (LaSalle, Ont./Sandwich) won the Player of the Game award in the championship final with a pair of hits and an RBI.

St. Clair completes its season next weekend when they travel to Oshawa for the first-ever national collegiate championship being hosted by Durham College.
