DURHAM ADVANCES TO SEMIFINAL AT NATIONALS

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's baseball team will play on the final day of the inaugural National College Baseball Championship after finishing 2-1 in the round robin.

Durham plays the Fanshawe Falcons (London, Ont.) at Kinsmen Stadium, while the four-time OCAA championship St. Clair Saints (Windsor, Ont.) face the Holland Hurricanes (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) in their respective semifinals. First pitch at each field is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The championship final will be held at 1 p.m. at Kinsmen Stadium.

The Lords did end their round-robin action on Saturday morning with a loss, 2-0 to St. Clair, but aren't phased heading into Sunday action.

After going six innings with neither team allowing a run, St. Clair picked up a pair in the top of the seventh to finish 3-0 and at the top of Pool A heading into Sunday's semifinal.

Max Ayarza was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Saints, while Miguel Cienfuegos and Kevin Dion each were 1-for-3 with an RBI apiece.

Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) had the lone hit for the Lords, who had starter Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) go 6 1/3 innings in the loss.

Beharri allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out one. Travis Doyle (Grimsby, Ont.) allowed no hits in his 2/3 inning pitched.

St. Clair's Mitchell Gault earned the win, going three innings in relief for the Saints. He allowed no hits, while walking one and striking out four. Micah Harris went four innings, giving up one hit and a walk. Harris picked up two strikeouts.

To wrap up the day, Fanshawe defeated Holland 2-1 and Humber defeated John Abbott 10-0 to force a tiebreaker at 5 p.m.

Holland scored single runs in the top of the third and seventh innings to each the Humber Hawks 2-0 and advance to Sunday.
