OSHAWA, Ont. - Through one day of action the five-time defending OCAA champion St. Clair Saints sit above the rest as they are the only 2-0 team thus far in the tournament.
St. Clair opened the day against the defending national champion Fanshawe Falcons, breezing to a 10-1 victory at Ritson Field. After opening with a 10-3 victory of their own over Seneca College, the Humber Hawks and Saints went head-to-head.
In the rematch of the Ontario final a week ago, which St. Clair won 1-0, the Saints defeated the Hawks 8-3.
For the host Durham Lords, they rolled to a 12-2 victory over the Sting in their only game of the opening day. Jake Storry (Port Perry, Ont.) earned the complete-game (six innings) victory, allowing two runs - none earned - on seven hits and a walk.
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) and Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) were the Lords leading hitters. Harkness was 2-for-4 with a double, five RBIs and a run scored, while May was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run.
Curtis Cunningham was the leading Saints batter going 4-for-7 with six RBI, three doubles, a home run and four runs scored.
To wrap up the day, the Holland Hurricanes of Charlottetown, P.E.I. defeated the Ahuntsic Indiens of Montreal, Que. 5-1.
