ST. CLAIR 13, FANSHAWE 0

LONDON, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's baseball (8-2) team split a doubleheader in London on Saturday afternoon with Fanshawe College (5-5) but still remain atop the OCAA standings. The Saints were upended 3-2 in the opener but responded with a mercy shortened 13-0 win in the second game.

In the first game, St. Clair scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead but surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh to Fanshawe in a walk-off loss. Carson Burke (Tecumseh/St. Anne) had a pair of singles with Matt Bondy (Amherstburg/General Amherst) driving in both runs for the Saints with two doubles. St. Clair starting pitcher Kyle Breitner (Mississauga) suffered the first loss of his five-year OCAA career giving up two earned runs on seven hits and a walk but struck out seven batters.

In the second game, St. Clair took 1-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the fourth inning. The Saints completed the mercy by exploding for five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Taylor Pappin (Brantford) earned his third victory of the season on the mound for St. Clair giving up only three hits and three walks in his six innings of work but let no runs across while striking out two Fanshawe batters. Bondy had a perfect game at the plate with three singles and a double while driving in five runs for the Saints. Burke and Brendon Renaud (Amherstburg/St. Thomas of Villanova) each added three hits apiece for St. Clair in the lopsided win.

The Saints travel to Macomb CC in Warren, Mich., for an exhibition doubleheader on Sunday.
