SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Niagara Knights scored three in the fourth end and added two in the seventh to defeat the Mohawk Mountaineers 7-3 in mixed team play at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., on Saturday morning.
Both teams are now 2-2. Humber leads the mixed event with a 4-0 mark, followed by Algonquin, at 3-1.
Wes Steen's Mountaineers will play Humber at 11:45 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Mohawk men, skipped by Logan James, lost 7-3 to Fanshawe. The Falcons scored two in the third end and three in the fifth.
The Mountaineers record fell to 3-3, the same as Fleming. Fanshawe improved to 5-1 and is tied for first place in the men's competition with Sault College. Humber is second at 4-2.
Mohawk's next game is 2:30 p.m. versus Seneca, which is 1-5.
The Mohawk women's team, skipped by Kendall Haymes, hits the ice again at 11:15 a.m. against Fleming. The Mountaineers sit alone in fourth place with a 3-2 record. Host Sault College, Seneca and Fanshawe are tied for the women's lead at 4-1.
