MOHAWK SPLITS DECISIONS IN DRAW 4 OF CCAA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - A win for the men and a loss for the women in Draw 4 of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Curling National Championships in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., on Thursday afternoon.

Logan James made the final hit in the 10th end and hung around to give his men's rink a 9-8 victory over Fanshawe. It was a real see-saw battle as both teams had ends where they stole three points and the Mountaineers had a four ender in the seventh for a three-point lead. But they couldn't shake the Falcons who tied the game with two points in the eighth end and a steal of one in the ninth. That set the stage for James' last shot heroics as Mohawk pulled out the win and squared its record at 2-2. The Mountaineers will play Portage College of Alberta Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Kendall Haymes' Mohawk women's team lost its second straight game to fall to 2-2. Northern Alberta Institute of Technology scored twice in the second end, then stole single points in five other ends, to win going away, 8-3.

The Mountaineer women will go up against Fanshawe in the fifth draw Friday at 9:30 a.m.

The championship banquet will be held tonight.
