WELLAND, Ont. - The Mohawk men's curling team is unbeaten in tune-ups for the OCAA championship.

Mohawk is now 8-0 after three more wins in Niagara on Saturday. James Freeman's rink downed St. Clair 10-1, whipped Niagara 13-4 and blanked Fleming 6-0 in four ends.

Freeman had Troy Woodland as his vice, Logan James at second and Jared Zuliani at lead for the last two games. Adam Seidlitz played lead for the first game and spared for the remaining two games.

The women's rink, led by Avery Thomas in lieu of Kendall Haymes, who was off to provincials, beat St. Clair 7-4, lost to Niagara 7-4, and downed Fleming 9-4, to finish second out of six teams. Other members of the team included Mackenzie Thomas as vice, second Paige Fursman and a  Niagara player at lead to take the place of Haymes.

The Mohawk mixed team, which lost by large margins to to Humber and John Abbott, finished strongly with a 9-5 decision over St. Clair. The team was skipped by Wes Steen, with vice Reagan Teeple, second Cody Strong and a Seneca player at lead, because of an injury. Steen and Strong switched positions with a good result.

The OCAA championships are set for Feb. 12-14 in Peterborough, Ont.
