FANSHAWE WOMEN'S CURLING WINS 2015 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's curling team was crowned 2015 OCAA provincial champions last Sunday afternoon in Peterborough, Ont. The women defeated the Humber Hawks in the gold medal final 8-6. The women are now the two-time defending OCAA provincial champions.

The Falcons women's curling team had an outstanding tournament, finishing in a tie for first place in the round robin with a record of 6-1. Fanshawe's only loss was a 7-6 defeat at the hands of the Humber Hawks, which left the Falcons in second place. After a 7-6 extra ends win over the Mohawk Mountaineers in the semifinal, Fanshawe battled Humber for the championship. The women's team was made up of skip Shannon Kee, vice Rachelle Vink, second Christina Borgs, lead Tess Bobbie and alternate Julie Clinton. Kee was also named a championship first-team all-star while Vink and Bobbie were named to the second team.

The Falcons men's team also represented Fanshawe well at the OCAA provincial championships.  The men finished the round robin with a record of 6-2, earning them a spot in the semifinal versus the Fleming Knights. The Falcons scored first but the men couldn't hold on and lost to Fleming 6-3. Fanshawe would settle for the bronze medal. The men's team was made up of skip Kelly Schuh, vice Curtis Easter, second Jackson Cox, lead Billy Brian and alternate Matt Pretty. Easter was named a championship first-team all-star and Cox was named a championship second-team all-star.

Both teams will head to Olds College in Olds, Alta., for the 2015 CCAA national championships.  The tournament takes place from March 25-28.
