MOHAWK MEN NEED AN EXTRA END TO WIN CCAA CURLING OPENER

LONDON, Ont. - In a game which featured numerous steals, the Mohawk men's team defeated NAIT Ooks of Edmonton 7-6 in an extra end in their opening game of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Curling National Championship at the Highland Country Club in London, Ont., on Wednesday.

NAIT had the hammer to start the game and blanked the first end, but Logan James' Mountaineer foursome stole the first point in the second end.

NAIT took a 3-1 lead, scoring two in the third end, then stealing a single in the fourth.

Mohawk got one back in the fifth end, then stole a single in the sixth to tie the count 3-3.

The Mountaineers proceeded to steal one in the seventh and then stole two in the eighth and appeared in good shape playing the ninth end, leading 6-3.

However, the Ooks scored a deuce in the ninth and stole one in the 10th to tie the contest at 6-6 and force the extra end.

But James and company notched a single in the 11th end for their 7-6 decision.
