SAULT HOSTS OCAA CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY BELAIRDIRECT

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The quest for OCAA glory in curling begin this week with 22 teams from nine institutions competing for collegiate supremacy in men's, women's and mixed play.

Sault College is proud to play host to Ontario's best with the 2017 OCAA Curling Championships presented by belairdirect this week at the Community First Curling Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Action begins Thursday morning at 8 a.m. with both men's and women's draws; draws continue throughout the day Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the playoff rounds set for Sunday.

On the women's side Seneca College looks to continue its success that saw both OCAA and CCAA national titles in 2016 in a field of seven colleges.

In both men's and mixed, Fanshawe College looks to repeat its gold medal performance from last year where they bested Sault College in the championship finals. The men's field also features the defending CCAA national champions from Humber College in a field of nine teams while six teams will compete in mixed.

"We are excited to welcome all to this magnificent event and wish all the student-athletes best of luck this coming week," states Scott Gray, athletic director at Sault College.

Sault College would like to thank Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, Goldline Curling and the Community First Curling Centre for all their help in once again playing host to the best collegiate curlers in the province.

Medal winners from the championships qualify for the CCAA Curling National Championships in March hosted by University of Alberta - Augustana in Camrose, Alta.
