BIG MOHAWK WIN IN NATIONAL COLLEGE CURLING

CAMROSE, Alta. - Logan James' Mohawk Mountaineers men literally stole their way to their first victory in three tries at the CCAA National Curling Championships at Camrose, Alta., on Thursday.

After going 0-2 on Day 1 on Wednesday, the Mountaineers bounced back with a 10-5 victory over the host team and Alberta gold medallists, the Augustana Vikings.

James had the hammer to start the contest, but had a point stolen from them in the first end. The Mountaineers picked up two in the second end, but Andrew Klaassen and his Vikings put up a three-spot in the third end, for a 4-2 lead.

This is where the fun started for Mohawk. The Mountaineers got two to tie the score in the fourth end, stole one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh end. Augusta drew for a single in the eighth, but it was over and the Vikings shook hands.

"(We) played a great second half scoring two and then stealing three straight ends for a total of six stolen points," said Mohawk assistant coach Matt Kimber.

Next up for the Mountaineers is a meeting with Olds (Alberta) at 4 p.m. ET.
