HUGE WIN FOR MOHAWK MEN AT CCAA CURLING

CAMROSE, Alta. - The Mohawk men's curling rink scored one in the 10th end to defeat the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks 5-4 in the day's final draw at the CCAA National Curling Championships in Camrose, Alta., on Thursday.

It was a terrific game, which ended with Mohawk skip Logan James drawing the button.

James had the hammer to start the game and blanked the first three ends. However, NAIT's Jonah Tobinski stole a single in the fourth end.

The Mountaineers bounced back with two in the fifth, for a 2-1 lead. The Ooks tied the score in the sixth end, then stole a single in the seventh, for a 3-2 lead.

The see-saw battle raged on, as Mohawk moved ahead by one again, thanks to a deuce in the eighth end.

Not surprisingly, NAIT tied it 4-4 in the ninth and they headed to the 10th end, with the Mountaineers holding the hammer and needing it for the victory.

Mohawk assistant coach Matt Kimber said it had to be one of the most nerve wracking games he's ever watched. "It came down to the last rock and Logan put it on the button. It was back and forth all game and very well played and it finished on our end. (The team) is performing at the top of their ability right now, so let's hope they can continue their success into (Friday)," said Kimber.

After losing their first two games to Ontario rivals Fanshawe and Humber, the Mountaineers have reeled off three straight victories over Alberta opposition and there is more to come.

Mohawk will meet the Lakeland Rustlers of Lloydminster, Alta., on Friday at 11 a.m. ET. They then play their final round robin game against the Red Deer Kings at 4 p.m. ET.
