The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is proud to announce the 2005 Women’s Fastball all-stars and major award winners. The award winners were honoured at the 2005 Women’s Fastball Championship Athletic Banquet on October 21st hosted by Mohawk College.

St.Clair’s third-year catcher Lindsay Verkoeyen was named the Player of the Year. Verkoeyen led her Saints squad to an 8-3 record this season with a 0.390 AVG.

“Lindsay has always been a team player as shown by her ability and willingness to move positions for the greater good of the team,” said Ted Beale, Athletic Co-ordinator at St.Clair College. “As a rookie in the 2003 season she played the entire year at Shortstop when her natural position is 3rd base. She moved back to 3rd base last year and once again this season she was asked to take her skills to the new position of catcher. She accepted it with determination and the team has since benefited from her excellent command of the game.”

Lauren Smith of St.Clair claimed the Pitcher and Rookie of the Year honours for her team high 0.390 AVG and 1.1951 ERA. Durham’s third year shortstop Kristy Kelly finished the regular season with a batting average of .467, to lead her team and win league-batting champion honours. The prestige of being Coach of the Year goes to the Durham’s Jim Nemish leading his team to their third 12-0 undefeated season.
