TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) women's fastball student-athletes of
the week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 2.
TOP PITCHER: Shannon Galea, Durham
Shannon Galea kept the opposition scoreless last
week in a pair of 11-0 victories. Galea pitched five innings,
allowing just one hit in a victory over Humber last Tuesday. She
struck out five batters, and walked none. In a win over Conestoga
on Saturday, Galea hurled another five innings, allowing just one
hit. She struck out nine, and walked none. Durham is 4-0 to start
the OCAA regular season.
TOP BATTER: Jessica O'Quinn, Humber
Jessica O'Quinn came up big for Humber in a
doubleheader sweep of Mohawk on Saturday. In the opener, O'Quinn
went 2-for-3 and drove in a run in a 4-3 victory. In the second
game, O'Quinn went 1-for-3, scoring once while driving in a run in
a 5-0 win. It marked Humber's first-ever victories in OCAA women's
fastball, as it makes its debut in the sport in 2011. Humber is
currently 2-4 with four games remaining.
