PATTESON HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S SOFTBALL AWARDS

OSHAWA, Ont. - For the second straight year, St. Clair College's Skyler Patteson (Guelph) is the 2015 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's softball player of the year. She received the award in a ceremony held in Oshawa, Ont. on Friday morning.

Pattson was in the top three among all OCAA players in four offensive categories, including 37 runs scored, establishing a new single season record (tying her with teammate Sarah Bondy). Patteson led the league with 28 runs batted in, was second in hits with 41, and was third in batting average (.488). She is also a two-time OCAA all-star.

Conestoga College's Laura Rumph (Drayton) is the OCAA rookie of the year. The catcher was fourth in the OCAA with 37 hits. Rumph was ninth in batting with a .440 average, and scored 27 times, tying her for third among all players. She also drove in 16 RBI. She too is an OCAA all-star.

Conestoga teammate Brittany Bell (New Hamburg) is the OCAA batting champion. Bell batted .554, fifteen points higher than her closet competitor. Bell was second in the league with 27 RBI, and was among the leaders in hits with 31. She is now a two-time OCAA all-star.

St. Clair's Allison Telfer (Windsor) is the OCAA pitcher of the year. Telfer led the OCAA in wins with 13, one of two pitchers to hit double digits. She was second among players throwing 96 innings. She allowed just 34 earned runs, struck out 38 and had a 2.48 ERA. Telfer also had one save. She is also an OCAA all-star

Fanshawe College's Catherine Arthur is the OCAA coach of the year. Arthur led the Falcons to their first-ever post-season berth in 2015, finishing in second place with a 17-7 record. Fanshawe had a nine-game and six-game winning streak, and defeated first-place St. Clair three times in four meetings.

Being named OCAA all-stars along with the aforementioned are Durham College's Caitlyn Omelanchuk (Whitby); Fanshawe's Rachel Dotzert (Stratford) and Kady Hawkins (London); Humber College's Myranda Pierson (Scarborough); and St. Clair's Bondy (Amherstburg), Megan Lumley (Windsor) and Jenna Pierce (London).
