FANSHAWE 8, HUMBER 6

LONDON, Ont. – The Fanshawe women's softball team (2-0) hosted the Humber Hawks (0-2) on Saturday afternoon in their season opener. The Falcons won both games of the doubleheader, by final scores of 8-6 and 3-2.

In Game 1 of the doubleheader, rookie Emily Davis started off Fanshawe's scoring with a three-run triple. The Falcons added one more run to go up 4-2 heading into the third inning.

The home team extended their lead to 8-4 by the end of the fifth before Humber responded with two runs of their own in the last inning to make the final score 8-6. Davis went 1-for-3 from the plate, with three RBI and two runs scored. The winning pitcher was Alanna Gilmour (1-0) and the losing pitcher was Myranda Pierson (0-1).

In Game 2, the excitement began in the fifth inning when Davis hit an inside the park home run to put the Falcons up 2-0. The Hawks tied it up in the top of the seventh, but Fanshawe responded with Jacey Lochert scoring Samantha Fuller for the walk-off 3-2 win. The winning pitcher was Lochert (1-0) and the losing pitcher was Amanda Vandegraaf (0-1).

Fanshawe returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Sept. 14, when they take on the St. Clair Saints (2-0) at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Stronach Park.
