RED HOT MOHAWK MOVES INTO PLAYOFF POSITION IN WOMEN'S SOFTBALL

KITCHENER, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers scored a pair of huge wins at Conestoga, in OCAA women's softball on Thursday, Oct. 5.

The Mountaineers blanked the Condors 3-0 in the opening game and then scored a 7-2 decision in the nightcap.

There's no doubt who was the star on this night at Budd Park in Kitchener, as Aimee Leduc won both ends of the twin bill, going the route of seven innings each time and bumped her record to 10-8.

In Game 1, Leduc fanned six Condors hitters, while tossing a three hit shutout. Sarah Bell led the offence for Mohawk with two RBIs and a run scored. Jensen Chapman lost for Conestoga, to see her record fall to 6-4.

In Game 2, Leduc allowed two runs, but scattered nine hits and had nine strikeouts. Raeanne Atkins had three RBIs and Meagan Byers drove in one.

Shanna Lahey was the losing pitcher to go to 0-2.

So Mohawk improved to 10-10, and Conestoga dropped to 8-12 in the battle for a spot in the OCAA championship. But both teams have four games remaining and Mountaineers head coach Todd Bannister said, "There's lots of work still to do."

Mohawk plays Durham at Mohawk Sports Park on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and goes to Humber Sunday, Oct. 15.

Conestoga visits Fanshawe on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and goes to Humber on Saturday, Oct. 14.
