LONDON, Ont. - On Sunday afternoon at Budweiser Gardens, during halftime of the Fanshawe men's basketball game, Fanshawe Athletics proudly unveiled its new Falcons varsity logo. The previous logo had been in use for the past 15 years.
The logo, created by Fanshawe College graphic designer Andrew Campbell, maintains Fanshawe's traditional red, white and black colour scheme. The goal of the project was to develop a new, exciting and empowering varsity logo which would represent the competitive strength of the Falcons program and the tenacity of its teams. Many hours of research were done to ensure that the logo would not just be your everyday, ordinary bird. The logo represents several characteristics of an actual falcon, including the beak shape, eye size and overall proportions. The winning logo design was chosen from an online survey of Fanshawe students, alumni and staff.
"We are extremely excited to unveil this new logo which is more modern and indicative of our strong new identity for our Falcons brand," said Fanshawe's manager of athletics Nathan McFadden. "This logo encompasses the overall strength of our Falcons programs on a national level and the competitiveness, passion and pride that our coaches and student-athletes bring with them each and every day. Also, by maintaining our traditional colours in the logo, we were able to keep our time honoured look, which is important to our alumni and fans."
"This is a very exciting time," added Fanshawe women's
basketball player Stephanie Antwi. "We have had
the old logo for a long time so it is great news that we will have
this new varsity logo for next season."
The new Falcons logo will be proudly displayed on all Falcons team
uniforms beginning next season.
Fans can purchase merchandise featuring the Fanshawe Falcons new
logo immediately at the Fanshawe Retail Clothing Store, located at
Fanshawe College, as well as at all Fanshawe women's and men's
volleyball and basketball home games. The clothing store is open
Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
