KITCHENER, Ont. - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) has selected hosts for its 2016-17 OCAA championships.
OCAA members went through a bid process for hosting OCAA regional tournaments and championships which got final approval at the OCAA Annual General Meetings in Kitchener last week.
Hosts in six league sports automatically qualify for the eight-team tournaments. This includes Redeemer (Ancaster) in Men's Soccer, St. Clair (Windsor) in Women's Soccer, Mohawk (Hamilton) in Men's Volleyball, St. Clair in Women's Volleyball, Centennial (Scarborough) in Men's Basketball and Seneca (North York) in Women's Basketball.
Playing host to OCAA tournament sports championships (either on or off campus) include Georgian (Barrie) in both Golf and Badminton, Seneca (King City) in Cross Country, Sault (Sault Ste. Marie) in Curling and Redeemer in Indoor Soccer.
Boréal (Sudbury) and Conestoga (Kitchener) play host to Badminton regionals, while Fanshawe (London), Conestoga and Redeemer host Indoor Soccer regionals.
New in 2016-17 is the Women's Rugby Sevens championship being hosted by Sheridan College (Oakville) in early November. Humber (Etobicoke) plays host to Men's Baseball, while Conestoga hosts Women's Softball. Hosts do not automatically qualify for these four-team tournaments.
There is no predetermined championship site for OCAA Men's and Women's Rugby (traditional), with the top-seeded teams playing host to the OCAA gold and bronze medal matches.
OCAA All-Star Games return in March, 2017, with Fleming (Peterborough) hosting Basketball, and Durham (Oshawa) hosting Volleyball.
